RENO, Nev. (KOLO) -- MARCH 18 UPDATE: A Reno man suspected of killing Jarrod Faust in south Reno on Feb. 11 called a friend that night and said he thought he had shot someone, according to documents in Reno Justice Court.

Wayne Cameron, 52, charged with open murder, showed up in several Reno Police Department cases, the document said. Cameron had a drunk driving arrest in 2011; in 2013 he was a stalking suspect; in 2017 he was a suspect in cases of burglary, trespass and violation of a temporary protection order, the document said.

The document recounted a phone call Cameron is alleged to have made the night of the shooting to someone whose name was blocked out in the document. He was described as having been a friend of Cameron’s for more than 20 years.

“I hate it when I do dumb things,” Cameron said. “I hate it when people make me mad.”

At one point, Cameron said, “I think I shot someone,” the document said. The friend expressed surprise and Cameron repeated, “I think I shot someone.”

Police said when they initially talked to Cameron, he denied being around Faust. Later, he said he was driving home from a Mexican restaurant when he saw Faust in his truck and a motorcyclist get into a road rage incident. Cameron said he was concerned for Faust – he couldn’t say why – and followed him. Faust had stopped the truck and Cameron stopped and asked if he was okay and Faust said he was and Cameron left, the document said.

Police said Cameron was sweating when they first contacted him and would only deny shooting Faust during an eight-hour interview when they pushed him。

Cameron lived near the shooting scene.

Crime scene analysis shows Faust was shot from about 1 feet to 3 feet with a 。40 caliber pistol。 Police were able to determine that Cameron bought a 。40-caliber pistol in 2011 but were not able to find the gun。

When they searched Cameron’s car they found two 。40-caliber casings and one 9mm casing。 The report said that could relate to two Washoe County Sheriff’s Office cases, but did not specify the nature of those cases。 When the Reno Police Department announced Cameron’s arrest they said he may be linked to two shootings in the homes in the Galena area in 2017 and 2018。

The case was originally being investigated by the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office but was given to the Reno Police Department because of a potential conflict of interest。 The document said a detective looked at Cameron’s Facebook page and found photos of him with Chief Deputy Greg Herrara and Sheriff Darin Balaam。

ORIGINAL STORY: Reno Police have made an arrest in connection to the murder of 29-year-old Jarrod Faust.

Fifty-two-year-old Wayne Cameron of Reno has been booked into the Washoe County jail on open murder charges。

On February 11th, Washoe County Sheriff's deputies responded to Welcome Way in South Reno on the report of a suspicious car in the area。 When deputies arrived, Faust’s body was found inside a truck。

The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Faust died from a gunshot to the head, the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said.

Police also believe Cameron could be connected to several shootings in 2017 and 2018 that occurred in the Galena area in which houses were shot in the middle of the night.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office initially investigated the case, but it was turned over to the Reno Police Department because Sheriff Darin Balaam and other sheriff's department staff knew Cameron, Balaam said Saturday in a statement.

“Our top priority is to do all we can to ensure that the family and loved ones of the victim receive justice while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and integrity in the investigation,” Balaam said. “We appreciate the working relationship that we maintain with our regional partners when situations such as this arise.”.

Anyone with additional information about the murder or the shootings is asked to call the Reno Police Department at 775-334-2115 or Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
